Herding dogs

Herding dogs – a designation, a label that urgently needs to be looked at more closely. In the target area of MIAO there are numerous herds, so naturally many herding dogs. They they have a task to fulfil here, namely to protect the flocks of sheep and goats. Unfortunately, many of these male herding dogs will leave their bleating charges regularly, when their excellent nose tells them that a bitch in heat is on the move in their catchment area. The result is, that a large number of the unplanned, and therefore unwanted puppies which end up in our care months later, carry herd guarding genes. Much has been written about them, much controversy can be read.
